THE BANK

I watched the bank for a day
And this is what I saw:
Some only made deposits
Others only did withdraw.

I stood by the doorway and asked
Those who had just put in,
"Are you gaining any benefit
From that which by work you did
win?"

I stood by the doorway and asked
Those who just withdrew,
"Would the bank survive for a
year,
If everyone did as you?"

I went to the presidentīs office
And asked, "Is this bank quite
fair?"
He answered, "You must see the
records.
Accounts are kept balanced here."

"And if some take out or put in
In this particular day
Then those who took must give
sometime.
Those who gave something receive
pay."

And this I did learn my lesson:
If you canīt see the records hold
back.
You cannot make true judgment
When full knowledge of them you do
lack.

Likewise in life as a whole
We are told folks reap what they
sow.
But if we cannot see the records
Who owes what we canīt possibly
know.
